ONE DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR ON RECENT ADVANCES IN DIGITAL TECHIQUES FOR NON DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION

A one day national seminar on 'Recent Advances in Digital Techniques for NDE' was organized by ISNT Thiruvananthapuram Chapter jointly with Digital Radiography Working Group India (DRWGI) on 21st November 2009 at Hotel SP Grand Days, Thiruvananthapuram. 125 delegates attended the seminar and seven industries participated in the industrial meet organized in connection with it. Chapter Chairman Dr. V R Ravindran presided the inaugural function and welcomed the guests, invitees and delegates. The Seminar was inaugurated by Sri. N. Narayanamoorthy, Distinguished Scientist & Project Director, GSLV MkIII, VSSC. Sri Narayanamoorthy in his inaugural address mentioned the application of various NDT techniques in ensuring the quality and reliability of space vehicle systems and stressed the need of introducing the advanced digital techniques in NDE, such as, DR, CT, TOFD, Phased Array, etc. for improving the quality of testing. The seminar souvenir was released by Sri. B. Velayudham, Deputy Director (PCM), VSSC and Sri R Sivaramakrishnan, General Manager, RPP also addressed the audiance. Dr. S. Annamala Pillai, Chairman, Organising Committee briefed the seminar details and Sri. K. R. Mohan Ananthanarayanan, Vice Chairman, ISNT delivered the vote of thanks.

In the two Technical Sessions major topics covered are Digital Radiography, CR technology, Computed Tomography, Digital Holography, Shearography, Phased Array techniques and TOFD by invited experts from IGCAR, VSSC, Pune University, GE Inspection Technologies, Blue Star, Pyrodynamics, etc. The invited talks were delivered by Dr. V R Ravindran, Dr. Annamalapillai, Dr. Damayanti Gharpure, Sri. Manoharan, Sri. Subbaratnam, Sri Remesh and Sri Raviprakash. The technical session was followed by the industrial meet in which 6 industries participated and presented the company profile and about the latest digital NDT equipments available. The programme was attended by M/s. GE Inspection Technologies Mumbai, M/s.Shield Alloys Mumbai, M/s. Blue Star Chennai, M/s. Pyrodynamics Hyderabad, M/s. East West Engineering Mumbai and M/s. Perfect Metal Testing Kolkata.
